The studio

A practice built on patience and proportion.

Meridian is a small Greenwich studio working across architecture and interiors. We keep our list short so every house gets the attention it deserves.

Our story

We began in 2014 with a single conviction: that good houses are not designed in a hurry.

Elena Vasari founded Meridian after fifteen years in larger London practices, wanting to work closely with a handful of clients rather than at arm's length from many. The studio took its name and its home from Greenwich, where the prime meridian runs through the hill above us. It felt like the right idea to build a practice on: a line you measure everything else against.

That is how we work. We start from the things that do not change, the light, the ground, the way a family actually moves through a day, and let the design follow from there. We draw slowly, build carefully, and stay involved until the last skirting is fixed.

Today we are a team of seven, taking on around six commissions a year across London and the wider country. Some are new houses. Many are old ones, asked to do something they were never built for.

Philosophy

Three things we hold to.

01 · Light first

We plan around daylight.

Before a single wall is placed, we study how the sun crosses the site. Rooms are arranged to meet the light they need, at the hour they are used.

02 · Built to age

Materials that improve with time.

Brick, stone, lime, oak, brass. We choose materials that earn their keep and grow more handsome as the years settle into them.

03 · Whole and detail

Architecture and interiors, as one.

We resolve the structure and the door handle with the same care. A house should read as a single thought, all the way down.

The people

Who you will work with.

Small enough that the people who design your house are the people who answer the phone.

Our approach

How a project moves.

Four stages, each finished before the next begins. You always know where things stand.

Stage 01

Conversation

We listen, walk the site, and understand the brief beneath the brief. By the end we both know whether we are the right studio for the work.

Stage 02

Concept & feasibility

Sketches, massing, and a clear sense of what the site and budget will allow. We test ideas early, while they are still cheap to change.

Stage 03

Design & detail

We develop the drawings, secure planning where needed, and resolve materials, joinery, and light down to the last junction.

Stage 04

On site

We stay close through construction, working with trusted builders and visiting often, so what was drawn is what gets built.

Every commission begins with a conversation and a walk through the space. We take on a small number of projects each year.
